Loarre Castle is a well-preserved Romanesque fortress located in the province of Huesca, in the autonomous community of Aragon, Spain. It is situated on the edge of the Pyrenees, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The castle dates back to the 11th century and is considered one of the best examples of Romanesque military architecture in Europe. The castle was originally constructed under the reign of King Sancho III of Navarre and later expanded by his successors. Its strategic location was crucial for the defense against Muslim territories during the Reconquista. The structure includes a series of defensive walls, towers, and a keep, as well as a Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Mary. Loarre Castle has been remarkably well-preserved due to its remote location and the quality of its construction.
