The poinsettia plant, also known as Euphorbia pulcherrima, is a popular ornamental plant native to Mexico. It is known for its bright red and green foliage, which is often mistaken for flowers. The "flowers" of the poinsettia are actually modified leaves called bracts, which surround the small yellow flowers in the center. The poinsettia plant typically grows to be about 2-13 feet tall and has dark green, ovate leaves with pointed tips. The bracts can come in a variety of colors, including red, white, pink, and even marbled combinations. Poinsettias are commonly used as decorative plants during the holiday season, particularly Christmas, due to their festive colors. Poinsettias prefer well-draining soil and bright, indirect light. They should be watered regularly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Poinsettias are sensitive to cold temperatures and should be kept in a warm environment, ideally around 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Overall, poinsettias are relatively easy to care for and can bring a pop of color to any indoor space during the holiday season.
