Creative Challenge: Transportation... I hope no one takes offense with this entry. It is meant with all the respect in the world. Everyone is born and everyone dies. In between we may use thousands of different kinds of transportation, costing from a few dollars to billions. My mother-in-law and father-in-law drove the same station wagon car for well over 30 years. My mother and father drove new cars that they purchased every year or so. At death, my mother-in-law and father-in-law were each transported to their final destination place on earth in the ultimate Rolls Royces of caskets... expense was no object to them in that regard. My mother was cremated and her ashes poured into a plastic bag, sealed in a cardboard box... and transported to her final resting place. Cost was of every concern in this regard. My father plans the same transportation when it's his time to go. This subject has created a lot of conversations among the family because of the extreme differences available in the final mode of transportation choices. Personally... I like my Mom's choice. I'll leave the money I save for my living loved ones to enjoy, rather than burying it in the ground... parked forever, never to be seen again... unless a Psunami washes it out and it transforms into a boat. :)

  • Judy, Shalom. Thanks for this most brilliant of entries, not just because of the transportation category, but for your words which accompany the photo. Thanks for sharing your gift of creativity; it is greatly appreciated. With Light from Tsfat. Aharon

  • Interesting take on the transportation theme. I like the implication that we are transported to the life here after no matter where eternity takes us. I do also wish there was a way to photographically express the transportation mode for those who will be called out to that meeting in the air that some refer to as a rapture of the saints, but your picture pretty much touches on the story for most of us. Good job. Thanks for opportunity to reflect on the most important part of living-finding the Travel Agent who has already paid for the very expensive ticket as bjclarke1 has already noted.

  • Nice sense of humor if you ask me,I mean regarding the transpotation part! I don't care what I'm buried in, I won't know any difference between the Roll Royce version vs. the cardboard box anyway! What's more important to me is where I'm going, not what mode of transportation it takes to get me there!!!

  • You have certainly touched a sensitive subject with complete clarity. I am of the dust to dust school... I would also prefer that no one felt obligated to visit me every Sunday or on those special occasions and then have everyong tut tut about the lack of headstone or some such thing - extremely extravagant in this day and age... Well done for presenting this ! Vanja

  • Certainly something to think about, though I think most avoid such thoughts of finality. Still, an interesting approach to this challenge. You are right about burying such extravagant boxes in the ground. When looking at the vast acreage covered by cemeteries, cremation makes so much sense. Unfortunately, in many states funeral directors have lobbied for legislation and the laws have been passed that make it almost as expensive to be cremated as buried, and that's a crime. Good luck in the challenge. Fred

  • A very interesting submission. As uncomfortable as this thought is, it is something we must approach bravely. This casket is certainly very beautiful and impressive, but it is truly what happens when we are alive that matters the most. And the love that we carry in our hearts for our loved ones after they are gone.

  • Well this is certainly a transportation method I did not consider. I think I prefer the "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust" method myself. To each his/her own.

  • I would rather be remembered for who I was when I was alive and not by a fancy funeral when I die. A great story to go with the picture. Myrna

  • Interesting submission. My point of view is the path you travel in life will lead to your final destination. Casket or box, what is critical is final destination. Helps to know the perfect Travel Agent. If you take His trip there is no cost, the ticket was purchased long ago... and it was very expensive.

  • Very true - I'd go with your mother's thought too. My family did when my father died. Those poor undertakers never saw our family coming, lol. Good luck!
