He really doesn't want to play with other dogs, or share them with his people. He just wants to be at your side, all the time, looking up at you with a smile. Tommy was found as a stray in Billings, MT. They tried very hard to locate an owner but none turned up. He was a matted mess, one of the worst they had seen, and they thought he might have been a stray for awhile. His foster dad also thinks Tommy had to defend himself as he's tough with other dogs. He wonders if Tommy was quite the con man to survive, trying to charm people into giving him food, because Tommy just seems to know how to be so attentive and cute. Tommy just got into our foster home, and we are still evaluating him, but it appears that he is trained pretty well. He responds to Come here, No, Sit, and knows his new name. He is housetrained as far as we can tell, and totally seems to enjoy indoor living. He does not get into trouble inside. Tommy would need to be the only dog. He is the type of dog that has no interest in other dogs, only people. He would be happiest soaking up all the attention. So far he is untested with cats. He's met some kids, and did pretty well, but older children would be best for him. He is very toy-oriented. So far there have been no indications that he gets annoyed when his toys get taken away by humans, but I would prefer older children because of this toy fascination. The foster home guesses that he lived with a single person or couple as the only dog in the home. His health seems OK. He was neutered at the shelter but they left one testicle, so he is going back for another surgery. He has had all of his shots and ESRA will do a heartworm test and deworming as well. He seems strong and healthy. His foster dad said he is really stocky and strong and muscular. His coat had to be shaved down, but it will be beautiful when it grows back. Tommy's personality can be summed up as the Velcro companion. He would be content going anywhere, or doing anything, with his person. He is mellow inside, but strong and active outside. He has a great zest for life, and a real love of people.
