Album Info:
Age: 18 months Gender: Male Color: Liver/White Weight: 45 lbs. Variety: Bench/Show -bred Freckles is a nice young Springer who came to us because his epilepsy was too much for his family. They loved him very much but it was not a good fit. He is doing great in foster care! He likes other dogs, the cat, and every person he meets. He is definitely submissive and wants to please. He has not had much training but he is a quick learner. He learned the doggie door within minutes, and he is swiftly learning commands. He loves to play in the yard and with the resident Springer, although she is more Alpha and he is a bit scared of her. He was with children in the previous home and was great with them. Freckles was in the yard and in a kennel in the garage at night previously, so he is a bit restless inside the home right now. He's still getting used to things. He is a "Curious George" and tries to open the door with his nose and check out whatever you're eating. He got in the garbage once, but quickly learned that is a "no." He is doing great on not having accidents in the house. He is so sweet and wants to cuddle. He settles right in when he can rest his head at your feet and snooze. He will make a great family friend. At this point, we are figuring out what kind of medication is needed. His seizures seem to be infrequent, but the meds were not consistent and it's hard to know what dose of phenobarbitol is needed. (Phenobarbitol, the anti-seizure med, has some side effects. It can make him very sleepy, for one, but it has to be given to prevent the seizures). Whoever adopts him needs to commit to giving his medication the rest of his life. He is in great health other than the epilepsy. Case Manager Note: His foster mom raves about him and I feel we need to be prepared for "foster failure" in case she adopts him herself. He is just the sweetest little guy. Be sure to contact us quickly if you're interested. Update 01 JAN 07: Freckles has not had any seizures since getting on his medication. It appears that his epilepsy will be easy to manage. Freckles went to the beach for Christmas and had a great time!
