Album Info:
Age: 5 years Gender: Male Color: Black/White Weight: 50 lbs. Variety: Bench/Show-bred Rollins is a treasure. While some dogs feel their purpose in life is to retrieve a tennis ball, chase a bird, or chew on a toy, Rollins is sure that his purpose is to be by your side. He's not at all interested in birds, by the way. He is interested in people! Rollins is quite popular with everyone who meets him. His foster mom had him meet all her co-workers the other day, because she'd been talking about him so much. He made instant friends! He also charmed the vet and the volunteers who transported him. Rollins would do well with a companion dog, especially a female dog. He doesn't always like strange male dogs. The behavior of growling at unfamiliar male dogs may be a thing of the past, as we have not seen it since he was neutered. However, it would be important to tell a potential adopter that Rollins prefers to be with dogs he knows. No cats for Rollins, please. Oh, my goodness, he gets wound up trying to go after them, and we are sure that the cat would not be safe. He enjoys children and would do well with older children. I would not want to put him with very young children because Rollins is deaf, and the kids would need to be old enough to understand that. We wouldn't want to leave Rollins alone in an unfamiliar area, wouldn't want to startle him, etc. Rollins is very attentive but we want the best situation for him. Rollins also tugs on the leash quite hard and we are working on that. He walks much better with a Gentle Leader. If he were walking with a young child, he could easily pull too hard and get away. He watches his people very closely and responds to visual clues such as patting your leg to come here. He is hoping to please and always watching you. Rollins is super snuggly and enjoys putting his head on your lap or a paw on your leg. He likes to tilt his head and look up at you adoringly. He would like to be at your feet whenever you relax. We've heard from the foster family that Rollins especially likes men. He's glued himself to the foster dad! He was left alone for a while and did great. He is housetrained and does not get into things. Rollins is in good health. While neutered, they removed sticks from his ears, but otherwise, his vetting has been preventative. The neuter made him quite sore at first, but he is healing up nicely. Because Rollins is deaf, we require that the adoptive home have a securely fenced yard. Rollins's deafness does not affect his quality of life. He loves life! Rollins has the typical energy level of a 5 year old: calm and mellow inside, running around outside. He would enjoy a lot of exercise and a lot of quiet cuddling time. Other than the pulling on the leash, he has been so easy to work with, so well behaved, and a joy to foster. He has the temperament of the adoring Springer that we all love.
