Age: 6 years Gender: Male Color: Liver/White Weight: 50 lbs. Variety: Bench/Show-bred Duke has been moved from a temporary facility in Stanton,CA to his foster home in San Jacinto. He entered ESRA's program due to the deaths of his former elderly owners. It is unknown for sure how old he really is, as he was adopted from a shelter a few years ago by this couple. It was thought he was around eight but seeing him play, fetch, and run, along with the fact his eyes are clear (great sight), has very good teeth, and good hearing, he appears to be six at most. Duke is a well mannered dog who knows Sit, Down, Come and Beg. His tail is always wagging and he loves human companionship. A more typical Springer could not be found. At dinner time he lies on the floor beside our table and does not countersurf. Treats are taken very gently from your hand. I was told his former owners had a cat. We have five of them, and he chases the ones that run. He been swatted and knicked several times by them, so he is learning fast. If he is adopted by a family that has cats, monitoring his interaction is necessary until they accept one another. It will be necessary to have a secure yard with fencing at least five to six feet tall. It's possible he can climb wire fencing, so stockade or block would be necessary ! Duke is wonderful with other dogs (we have two), and children are fine for him to be around. He has shown no aggression whatsoever. Riding in a car with him is a joy. He was scheduled to go to another foster home with us as transporters, but once we were with him for just a short while, we discovered what a wonderful dog he was. He never made it to that other foster, as we decided to foster him ourselves. He is absolutely no trouble at all, is completely housetrained, walks well on a leash, and will make some deserving family a wonderful companion. Duke has discovered the steps in the swimming pool and has ventured in a few times so he is definately a water dog. This is his third home since losing his family, so he will need some time and patience to feel that love and security he misses, and so desparately deserves. What he'll give you in return for this cannot be gauged. If you have it in your heart to make Duke's life whole again, please apply.
