We take him out several times a week so he can run wide open. It's absolutely beautiful to watch. But as active as he is outside, when you bring him in he calms right down and is very gentle. He likes affection, but he doesn't live for it. He uses the doggy door, and heads into the crate himself, when he's tired. Coaxing him into the crate is just not necessary. He's pretty good at coming when he's called, gets along with other non-aggressive dogs, gets along with cats, understands Sit and Stay, has learned to eat gently out of your hand, and not until told it's OK. We've learned to appreciate male dogs that squat to piddle instead of lifting their leg. Riley is such a dog. He will not mark territory with urine. We don't know a lot about Riley's history, but he must have had some training, and he learns pretty fast. This bright, spirited dog would surely benefit with some obedience training. If you're looking for a happy, alert, high energy, completely housetrained, totally crate trained dog, that uses the doggy door, requires some serious exercise each week, and will not lift his leg on any of your furniture, plants, posts, or pots, — Riley just might fit the bill.
