Congratulations! 11/04/06: Lucky Luke is indeed lucky to be alive. He had been rushed to the emergency vet because he had collapsed. His blood volume was so low and he needed a transfusion. He was anemic, had fleas and ticks, was way underweight, and was positive for heartworm and Lyme disease. His coat was a mess too, ears so matted they had to be shaved. The Emergency vet called ESRA and asked if we would take Luke into our program. Luke was so sweet they couldn't just let him go. They offered to donate the care they had already given if ESRA would assume future responsibility. Thanks to that vet and ESRA, Luke's luck certainly has changed. He has improved steadily and is expected to make a full recovery. He will be neutered soon. Lucky Luke loves to roll over for belly rubs and he plays happily with his foster brother Jack. We are still unsure how he will be with cats, he goes on point when he sees one! So far we haven't let him near one. It will certainly be a lucky family that adopts Lucky Luke.
