A Good Samaritan couple took him in, cleaned him up, and gave him a nice place to stay while they searched for his home. After calling the shelters and listing him online and in the paper, they called rescue. When I walked in the door to meet Sammy, he ran to me and gave me kisses. He loves meeting new people; his entire body wags. He is extraordinarily friendly. He also really enjoys playing with their young dog. Sammy is not good with cats, though. We expect he'd be great with older kids, with his temperament, but not very young kids as he is young and bouncy and would likely knock them over. Sammy's personality is always sunny, and he is very trusting. He was wonderful for the vet's exam, and my initial exam. More importantly, he was very cooperative during hours and hours of grooming. Sammy had huge mats all over his body. He was patient and gave us lots of kisses during the process. Sammy's foster home is pleased to report that he has had no accidents. He is fully housetrained, and knows some basic commands. Sammy is very good in the house, and has not chewed anything or gotten into anything he shouldn't. He gets up on the furniture, but responds well to "off." He is OK on a leash. They are going to test him off-leash soon. He is nervous about getting in the car, and I had to pick him up and push him in. Once inside, he was well-behaved and calm. He is also not a fan of crates, although we'll be working on that. Sammy has a few interesting personality quirks. He likes to "hug." If you are seated, he will come up to you, place his paws on you, and lean into you to "hug" you. Then watch out for the kisses! Sammy also is not food-motivated, as far as training. He is affection-oriented. Healthy premium dog food is not his favorite; he likes the cheap stuff. He will provide someone a lot of smiles and fun times. Overall, Sammy is a delightful dog.
