Age: 6 years Gender: Female Color: Liver/White Weight: 50 lbs Variety: Bench/Show-Bred Words from Shane's foster mother, Amanda: I went to Indy to pick up Shane, who was coming to me from Kentucky! She came to us totally attention starved and we have had to work very hard to teach her not to jump, not to play-bit when playing, and not to "counter surf." Other than those things, she was a good dog but very hyper! However, the more time she has spent with us, the more we have grown to love her. She has calmed down a lot! Now she is content to lie on the floor next to the couch while you watch a movie, rather than jump up every 3 minutes! When we first got Shane, she would sleep in the bathroom on the cold tile floor, even though we had given her 3 different beds around our house! I finally put one of her beds in the bathroom because it broke my heart that she was sleeping there! She used it for a while, but has now decided that we DO love her and sleeps on the floor in our bedroom, next to my husband's side of the bed so that she can see out the door. Its almost like she is on the lookout for anything strange while we sleep! Like she is our protector! Anyhow, I tell you all that to tell you this: Last week Shane was hit by a truck while crossing the road! We live on a farm, in an unpopulated area of Indiana and I had taken her across the road to play "chase" in the field (it would be "fetch" but she doesn't return it!) As we were crossing back to other side, a truck came flying around the corner and hit her. I took her immediately to the vet, where they treated her for cuts, bruises, and to prevent infection. However, a few days later, Shane quit using her back left leg and now walks on only 3 (and does a fine job of it too!) I took her back to the vet, where I was told that she tore her ACL and will need surgery! Everyone at the vet's office, including the vet, was absolutely SHOCKED at how calm and loving Shane has been throughout the entire time! I keep hearing "She is such a good dog!" Anyhow, my point is that Shane has come so far, and is such a great dog and deserves a great home! Thank you Amanda Coordinators Note: Shane will have surgery on her knee Monday, December 4th. Her surgery will cost around $450.00. She will need a home without stairs (or someone who can carry her up & down) to recover. She will come home the next day, Tuesday December 5th. Amanda has way too many stairs. Please consider fostering Shane or adopting her. She needs you.
