Album Info:

If It Should Be If it should be that I grow weak And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then you must do what must be done, For this last battle cannot be won. You will be sad, I understand. Don't let your grief then stay your hand. For this day, more than all the rest, Your love for me must stand the test. We've had so many happy years. What is to come can hold no fears. You'd not want me to suffer so; The time has come -- please let me go. Take me where my needs they'll tend, And please stay with me till the end. Hold me firm and speak to me, Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time that you will see The kindness that you did for me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I've been saved. Please do not grieve -- it must be you Who had this painful thing to do. We've been so close, we two, these years; Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

    • Hello, Sam, I have just found these 2011 pictures of your cherished Iowa, after having noticed that she was no longer named in your list of pets. My heart goes out to you and your family, especially knowing how wrenching it can be to lose a furry family member after so many loving years together. Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem and its thoughts with us, together with this sweet and colorful portrait of Iowa. (My list of cats has shrunk over the past several years; I still mourn every one who has left us. I still haven't been able to bring myself to add the death date to pictures of our Lady Bianca, who was attacked by dogs in February and died in the vet hospital 9 days later, at the age of 17, just as it seemed that she was finally recovering.) Thank you, also, for your wonderful comments on my second Connemara album and my fledgling "Happy Bastille Day" collection. I hope that you had a very enjoyable Fourth of July holiday! --Warm wishes, Rebecca
