Max has a lot of good qualities. He loves all other dogs, no matter how bossy or mean they might be. He loves children. He is sweet, affectionate, beautiful, and healthy. He is housetrained, doesn't get into anything he's not supposed to, and minds well. He doesn't jump up, but he gives kisses and loves belly rubs. Max also has some things we're working on. He has learned to be great on the leash with his Halti harness. He isn't dependable off-leash, because he'll follow his nose, but then many dogs aren't great off-leash. He loves to be up on the furniture, but he is a snuggler, so you can't blame him. We thought he was going to be OK with cats, but his prey drive is too strong. We also thought he might be a fence-jumper or digger, but he hasn't been bad in a secure fence. He wasnt' great riding in the car at first, but has improved and is not a problem now. Max has a compulsive issue. He likes to find sunny spots and stare at them, to catch shadows. This is not a destructive behavior, and probably more annoying to the owner than anything else. However, when Max wants to find the shadows, he is hard to distract. Someone who wants a constant companion could be disappointed by Max's interest in the sunny spots. He is normal when it's not sunny, normal in the house, and the behavior is not constant. We are working with a trainer and vet to help Max. He is already blossoming so much with the individual time and many walks he's getting. He is becoming more affectionate and secure all the time. He would do best in a home that can give lots of positive reinforcement and quality time together. He might just be a dog who will always like his sunny spots, but that might be liveable. He's a special boy with a lot of love to give, and he just hasn't had the right environment in his short life.
