Album Info:
Age: 5-6 years Gender: Male Color: Liver/White Weight: 73 lbs. Variety: Bench/Show-bred Emmett is a wonderful, mellow guy with only one fault; he snores like you wouldn't believe! Otherwise, it's hard to find anything negative about him. He is well-trained, likes other dogs and cats, and very sweet and happy. Emmett likes children. He was around a 9-month-old boy who used Emmett to learn to stand. He treated Emmett as his own personal jungle gym and Emmett thought it was great! Emmett walks nicely on the leash, and responds to commands such as Sit, Stay, Off, No, Come, etc. He is a good listener and wants to please, and is housetrained, too. He does well in the car and doesn't get into mischief. He loves to be around other dogs, and even does well with intact males. He is fine with the cat and loves to meet every person around. He really enjoys his food and was fed separately from the other dog so he wouldn't try to eat her food. On one occasion he didn't take a treat very nicely, but otherwise is always good at that. Inside the house, you'll find him snoozing or relaxing on his dog bed. This dog is very fond of dog beds! He seems to have been trained to stay off the furniture. Outside, he is running around, checking out the surroundings, playing keep-away with other dogs. He's playful and alert, but settles down inside. We found out that Emmett has low thyroid, and that was part of the reason he was so fond of snoozing. He is on thyroid meds now, and will take them the rest of his life ($10/month or so). Even then, though, Emmett enjoys sleeping to the point that he's a great example of "It's a dog's life." He makes a fantastic foot-warmer. Emmett is a big hunk of love... all 70 pounds of him. He is a BIG Springer! He's not even chubby, and those paws of his are like tennis rackets! With that size you might think he was bench bred, but he looks like he has some field lines, too. Emmett had some temporary health problems (ear and eye infections, hot spots, food allergies, tummy aches) that have all been resolved. Sometimes when we get them from the shelter, there are many health issues to address. Now Emmett is feeling great, but we have him on a no-chicken diet. And, as I mentioned, he will need his thyroid pills. Emmett was able to go to work with one of our volunteers at the pet supply store. Emmett was so good that she believes he'd do great going to work with someone. The only problem we had was occasional "shop-lifting" by Emmett. He would find a neat treat out of a bin sometimes and quietly enjoy it. If you see him getting close to the treats and say his name, he stops what he's doing and looks at you to apologize. In most environments he would do great. Emmett would be perfect for someone who was in an apartment, or had to work a lot, as he is so well-behaved and mellow and will just snooze during the day. He's fine with that routine as long as he gets his outside time to play. If you like going to the dog park and then settling down for a nice nap with your "foot warmer," then Emmett is the dog for you. Comments: He's down to 70 pounds now.
