He was given that name by our rescuers because he was in such deplorable condition he looked like a Wooly Mammoth. His fur was stinky, long, and matted, with nails over an inch long. His condition, as I would describe, was "abusively neglected". He was pulled from the shelter in San Diego and vetted immediately them bathed and groomed. As you can see, he has been trimmed down to his skin in order to remove all the mats. He will be a distinguished representation of the breed when his fur grows back. Once in foster care, it was learned that he ignors our cats/kittens and gets along fine with our two dogs. He appears housetrained ( no accidents in 24 hrs), and is a very gentle giant, but needs to lose about 5-7 lbs. He rides well in a car, is very good on a leash, and does not get on the furniture. This boy needs a second chance, and would be a nice companion for an older dog or family. He thrives on companionship, and cries if he thinks he is going to be abandoned again. Update 11/20/05: Manny has been with us in foster care for 3 weeks now and he still hasn't had an accident.The spring in his step, that apparently was lost in his previous deplorable life, is beginning to return. His coat is starting to grow out, and he is beginning to blossom into a beautiful boy. He is best described as a "Gentle Giant"..a "Marmaduke" in Springers clothing. His personality is really laid back, and he continues to get along with all animals he comes in contact with, even new fosters. If you're inclined to want a companion that gives unconditional love, appreciation, doesn't get on furniture, sleeps all night on his bed, and isn't demanding, then please consider Manny to be your choice. This guy doesn't have a mean bone in his body, and will love you forever, no matter what.
