Album Info:

Age: 2 Years Gender: Spayed Female Color: Liver/White Weight: 40 lbs Variety: Bench/Show Bred Brittany is a female Springer, about 2 years old. Here is a beautiful and loving dog that was dropped of at the pound to await her fate. Well, as sweet as this girl is, the local Humane Society couldn't leave her there so it was off to vets for a check up and the necessaries. That's when they found out she had Heartworms, and we're betting that the owners dumped her because of that. She is fully vetted, spayed, and has already gone through HW treatment. She can never be left totally alone in a fenced yard. One couple that adopted her left her in the back yard and she dug under the fence and they found her sitting at the front door. They did that for a week and returned her. Another couple had a farm. She was fine when they were home but when they left, they locked her in the barn. When they came home each time she had dug her way out of the barn and was waiting for them outside the front gate. They were afraid she'd be hit by a car. She lasted there for 2 weeks. So if you don't plan to leave her alone in a yard (which isn't safe for any of our rescue Springers) or lock her in a barn, then certainly let us know if you are interested! Brittany MUST be an only dog in her Forever Home. Stay tuned while we test her with cats. ESRA hopes to help Brittany find the right home! Stay tuned! UPDATE 8/28: Brittany, formally diagnosed as being a princess, has come out of her shell! Brittany has been here a week now and has proven herself to be a little love bug. And we've learned that she doesn't hate the other dogs! Her first reaction when meeting new dogs is to bark and charge. However, with slow introductions to everyone, she is now able to run free with the other dogs and has graduated to sleeping on a dog bed in my bedroom. Most of the time, she gets off her dog bed as soon as everyone settles and crawls under the bed for the night. Two resident dogs sleep on the "big" bed and Brittany has been known to hop up in the morning for a little snuggle before we all get up with no issues. She would prefer to sleep on the bed, but listens when she is told to get down or when placed on her bed and she will not try to jump up until morning. On occasion she will try to get a little bossy with the other dogs, but one "HEY" from me has her wiggling and happy again and she runs over to make sure everything is Ok. Outside, she likes to go to the back of the yard or in the tall grass to do her business and then runs back to come inside. She likes toys as is evidenced by the shredded stuffed toy I found when I got home today, but she hasn't played with any with me. Brittany quickly learned not to dive her head in the dogs' bowls and that her is coming. She LOVES to eat and will beg for people food, so she needs a family who will make sure she keeps her girlish figure. Brittany knows sit and with other dogs around she is desperate to be the one to get EVERY treat. To that end, we highly recommend a positive reinforcement training class for Brittany which will help her bond with her new family and teach her some additional manners. Brittany does pull pretty badly on the leash when walked and this will improve with obedience training as well and we will work on that this week.Brittany can be left uncrated in the house and is not destructive, however, she did have an accident this week when I didn't crate her so I recommend crating or limiting her access to the house until that is worked out. I will be getting her checked for a UTI this week as she was so terrible matted all down her rump, I would not be surprised if this is why she had the accident as she is always good enough to go to the door when I am home. Brittany is a pleasure to have in foster care, but would like a home where she can spend a great deal of time with her family and will work hard for her rewards of belly rubs and treats. She is also a very quick study so training should be a breeze. Are you the family that can make this sweet girl's dreams come true? If so, she'll be your best friend for life!
