What a beautiful "green turaco" (Tauraco persa) from West Africa. Their name sounds South American to me, so I was surprised to see that the turacos come from Africa. This one is the only bird in the world with a "true green pigment" in its feathers. Other green birds, apparently, have yellow pigment mixed with blue to make the green. Isn't that amazing! I have such fun - double fun! - seeing your beautiful photos, then looking them up in Wikipedia or Google to see what they are and what I can find out about them. My Webshots collections of birds are now growing by leaps and bounds, many of them contributed by you. I can't thank you enough for your gorgeous photos!
