I meant, that you'll likely never see that on the *body of the healthy, adult birds. It's a natural part of having feathers, healthy or not. Birds will usually preen (groom) themselves as much as they can. What else is there to do all day other than finding food and water? Preening!

I like this shot. It needs a friend though. I can tell because of the new feathers that came in on it's head. The new feathers have a thin shaft around them. That's what that very light grey/whiteish stuff on his head is. If he had a friend, they would get that shaft stuff off of each other's heads, since, obviously, the birds can't do that so well on their own. You'll likely never see that on healthy, adult birds since they are such avid groomers. It's really amazing that this bird's picture was able to be taken with it's feathers still in the shaft. Nice work.
