Finally stumbled across this bird and know what it is now. It's an orange-breasted waxbill (Amandava subflava), found in most of Africa south of the Sahara Desert, except the belts of rainforest in Central Africa and the arid deserts of the southwestern parts of Africa. It is a tiny little bird, in the finch family (Estrildidae), only 9 cm long. But it's really lovely, I think. Thanks so much for the lovely photo and for the interesting mystery. Every time I find an "unknown bird" at last, it feels great! Thanks again and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
