Pookie was adopted by Bill Smith from Carol (Cherokee). Carol nursed Pookie back to health following his bout with mutilation and severe plucking. For a while Pookie had only two feathers, one on his head and one on a wing. Presently, he wears a foam collar for a few days at a time, then it is removed for a few days until he decides to pluck again.
