Hi Corina, Thank you very much for sharing these amazing photos. Remember that you must let him out, as he has to fatten up for winter and go into hibernation. If he does not eat enough, or he goes into hibernation late, so that he uses part of his stored food up first, he may not survive until next spring! Hedgehogs tend to have set runs. There is one which comes into our garden, walks round the borders, then goes into the garden next door, does the same thing all the way along the street. If he catches a snail, that halts him in his tracks temporarily, but they are creatures of habit. If his mate and offspring are nearby, he will not stray far. My comments on his musical prowess can be found under the relevant pictures. Beethoven would not be a good name for him, as he was bad tempered! How about Haydn? My dear friends, first of all I want to thank you all for your nice comments and advices. I know the hedgehog must be free, but in certain circumstances it's better to keep it under control, offering him all the best conditions to live. In our neighbourhood there are many dangers beginning with our swimming pool (only we know, how many times, during the years saved hedgehogs, if not the same hedgehog, from this pool!). Second, only me I know how many hedgehogs I saw at max. 1 km distance from our house dead in the middle of the street because of the cars and the drivers which doesn't care about this small animals! Second, there are many, many hunters here between our neighbours and they are ignorant peasants who eating the hedgehogs if they catch them. They tell that the hedgehog is delicious and I hate them when I hear this...They give a lot of pesticides and insecticides in their gardens and this could make very bad at the hedgehog. I could bring the hedgehog in a forrest arround but in the last two months Italy is burning everywhere and more than 60 millions mamifers, more than 40 millions birds and milliards of insects were dead in the fire. I think that, because this hedgehog came back to us many times, we have to keep him and protect him. I became an expert in hedgehogs in these few days, I know everything about them, so don't worry...He has a lot of space to walk free, he can walk kilometres in a day if he wants...He likes a lot all the food I give him (choosed with attention). He adores the water melon and the cats food. In the last days I saw that he's not afraid anymore. My dear Kathryn, I read a lot about hedgehogs and I'll answer to you. If the hedgehog stays in the house at warm he don't have to hibernate. He don't need this, and he's staying well. They hibernates only in the middle of the nature because outside is cold during the winter. Regarding the names suggestions,we already called him "Swim" like in the title of this album, because we found him swimming all the times in the pool.Hugs,Corina

And for you Kathryn another thing: in the middle of the nature the hedgehogs are eating snails because the snails are good and they don't know, but the snails make very bad to the hedgehog because his diggestive system is not so good. After the snails carry a lot of bacteries and specially Salmonella which can be letal for the hedgehog. If we want a healthy hedgehog we can keep him far from the snails, shells, fresh meet and fresh fish. They never can eat cow milk, pork meat, peanuts, nuts, almonds. Wow, wow, wow...what a special album you have developed here. I think you have done your research on the hedgehog and you know just how to take care of him. Like I said on your last album, my boys had a pet hedgehog until he left. If and when it's time to let him, you and him will both know. Hi Corina! You know, we don't have hedgehogs in the US, but people can buy them in pet stores- Not sure if I agree! But we have a sweet old hedgehog at my work- a nature center, that a wildlife rehabilitator (someone who takes care of wild animals to put back int the wild or find a good home)gave us. We use her in animal programs, I'll try to send photo. But I learned alot from what you said about snails. I didn't know alot about them, except that in Germany they are gardeners' friends!
