Album Description:
More dogs that died in the shelter. The photos in these albums represent less than 0.5% of the numbers of dog euthanized each year in our shelter. This is a serious problem with no quick or easy answers or solutions.

This is a great thing to do for these animals, there should be more people that learn how to stick up for them and help them instead if buying a certain type of dog just because its the popular one at the time everyone should take a look at the animals who are already born that need homes instead of creating more lives. All I can say is God bless and keep sending the messsage. I have 4 adopted animals and I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. People really need to wake up and see the world for what it really is and put this needlesss suffering to an end.

My heart breaks for all of them. On May 31,2003 we adopted our Buddy, a Chocolate Lab, and we have been blessed ever since. I wish that all who desire a new pet would do the same.

Your album is sooo sad. A few years ago, my 2 kids and I adopted a dog from our local Humane Soceity. We just adopted an outside cat 2 weeks ago. My heart goes out to these animals.

How gutwrenchingly sad. I have 4 rescued friends and would have more, if I could. How can humanity just disrespect life so much? These pictures are a wonderful tribute to their memory and their short lives with the only moments of joy being getting to know people like yourself. How sad. If I knew how, I would love to take one of those little guys needing a home and give him/her paradise on earth. Thank God our shelters here in Germany are not abundant or crowded. Thank God dogs are allowed everywhere here and are considered to be part of the family. Thank god we have strict laws governing the safety of animals. I am a veterinarian here in Germany and really, if we could figure out a way to get one of these needy souls to me here, I would immediately give one more soul at least ( along with my other 4) a wonderful life. It would only be a drop of water on a hot stone, but one life is one life. Wish I could do more. Thank God there are people like you out there. Many many greetings and warm regards from Germany. michelle, waldemar, sammy, eddy and oscar

I am an animal lover and wish that many more persons would look at these animals as I do and not just throw aways. I have 14 dogs and consider them all a part of my family. Many of whom came from a shelter. They are loyal and loving to me and in return I give them life and love as I would like to have. Through the efferts of my shelter here in Aberdeen I have gotten a few dogs that have made very good threapy dogs, one for children's hospitals and one for the elders home where they are not allowed to have pets. It gives them a different out look in life and I know that my dogs give great love in return to theses Children and elders. Some how they know that they will be loved until their time comes to complete their life cycle, and then again I will go to the shelter and in their memory another one or maybe my family. A family of Love

this makes me sick!!! I have a dog myself who might have ended up in one of these places like her 9 brothers and sisters... I don't understand how people can be so heartless and cruel. They may only be dogs to some people, but they could be pets and children and family members to a lot of others. I know a woman who rescues dogs from shelters. She now has 6 big dogs and loves them all. The only downfall is that you can't take them all... I wish more people were aware of this.

Hello Sylvia, Boy , that message on december 20,2002 I think just wants you to visit China -forget the animals! It is so good to hear of your compassion for our furry critters. Many of whom don't get a chance for a full life, or even an adult one. : ( But they can feel your love radiating and this may be the only love they feel before being put down and this is so important for them to feel. And I am sure there are many who never know this feeling ...... those that are abandoned and never found, that die wild. : ( I was asked by my vet this past christmas to work with a problem 7 month old kitten, since I have worked with a couple others in the past and helped them to overcome their problem, & since I have no other animals, I was a good one to ask. (I had to have my cocker spaniel put down at 13 years ... his time to go.... and this was the hardest thing for me that I vowed to never have another pet. It has been 6 years now and these past couple cats have 'mended' my heart unbenowest to me.) Needless to say, this last one from this past christmas I have really bonded with and couldn't imagine someone taking better care of him than me. And his turn around took only 6 weeks!!! One day I will have some money to buy a house with a yard and have a canine once again but for now my 'Dudlee' will continue to bond. I know you will continue to be there, somewhere, for the animals and I pray the good Lord will continue to fill your heart with love for our furry critters. God bless you Sylvia, Teresa Yusko aka: mingoe2

I know it is heartbreaking for you to see these beautiful animals killed. The animal shelter needs a shake up on their put down policies. It seems to me thay have become too hardened to their job. I'm sure these babies at least get some kindnes from you in their last days. Take care and thanks for sharing with us, I know I will remember those dear dear faces.

Thank you for sharing the fate of these poor animals and bringing it to the publics attention. Hopefully the more people who visit your page, the more public awareness will be raised. It must be extremely upseting for you having these healthy animals lives terminated, just through human negligence and ignorance. Keep up the thought provoking as well as compassionate work. I am fortunate to live near a dog rescue centre that has a "no kill" philosophy and it did come as a shock to find out from yourself that this is not a universal practice. Living the other side of the Atlantic the vast majority of animal rescue charities will only destoy seriously ill or animals shown to be dangerous, hopefully one day this will spread westwards.

Very sad people get anmails and dont take care of them, and they end up like this. I have had 3 rottweilers put down to cancer and it hurt me, and them as well, just think how these babies feel with no one there for them. If i couid i would take all of them, but i cant. Love them while you can, before they go, at least in the last few seconds of there lives, they thought someone cared!

I am truly saddened that some of those adorable dogs died after only average 3 days! I adoped a 1-yr cinnamon color chow/shepherd mix girl. She has such a sweet disposition, is very loyal to me and a fun playmate with the kids. More people should give chow mixes a chance! It really depends on the disposition. Thank you for your enlightening page and I will hug my best doggie even tighter tonight!

Sylvia, thank you for your work. We adopted our dog, a field spaniel last year and she has become an incredible friend and companion to all of us. She is truly a family member. While looking through your album I came across a "spaniel mix." Well, she is a dead ringer for my dog... I can't believe they would put someone like that down. Dogs give us nothing but endless love and friendship, and what do we do in return? We breed them beyond all reason so that they sometimes have only days to live after we give them up. I believe we grant more mercy to serial killers and rapists! One day, I hope to open a no-kill animal shelter, and make a real difference. Till then, thank you for reminding us how cruel we can be, and how much there is still to be done.

I am please to see that someone is truly dedicated to bring this to the public's attention! More people should think about what happens!!! We have a black & white male pom, & a female all black; they gave a Us a planned liter of 4 beautiful babies: 1st out was Hosea; black & white (larger than most pure breeds he is a throw back to the original 30lbs.-he is 15lbs.-more to love); 2nd out was Faith; she is black & white & small; 3rd out was Pericous; she is a wolf sable which is fairly rare (she is Daddy's little baby for sure very jealous of he's attention); 4th out was Little Man; he was very, very, small & soild black (unfortunately he only lived with Us for 2 days but, long enough to make a strong impact on Our hearts, he was very lovingly buried in our backyard very close to the house); We have great Vet's they are nationally rated; they are Very Proud of this as are We but, they got this Honor after We had already been using their services. They had to C-Section the delivery of the pups & I was there thru it all & taught how to sling the pups to get their airways cleared as Mom was asleep, they even gave two of the last pups mouth to mouth & then, a series of shots to help beef up their abitily to breath on their own. I was lucky that they know I am fairly well skilled in the knowledge of a wide variety of animals first aid & maintance health care; so, they let Me bring home Our loving little family. Suprise when, I got in My Husband was just in from he's 2 week stay on the ship (barge's hauling sand up & down the KY River Area & the Ohio River, too, He was so happy to see that all was well. Even the Father of the pups was quite Happy to see he's little wife & new children. They are like a married couple for sure as he is always making sure she is okay along with the pups. He is going on 9yrs, Mom is now is 5yrs, & the 3 pups (ha,ha) are now 4yrs. We finally brought Ourselves to letting a close friend with older children has the 2nd born as she needed individual attention she is quite active & out going with the new family. We brought her home to visit & all was great. I now belong to alot of Humane Societys & the group against any animal curelity!!! Plus, I plan to leave a sum of money to each as well as the Dept. for the Blind here in My State as they helped Me several yrs ago & I have not forgotten it either. If You happen to get My Email address Syliva; Please write Me? Thanks from KY!!! Oh Yes, We have a new Larger Addition to Our family, the man on the farm next door had been given a part border collie / australian cattle dog black & white as he had too, many dogs for Him to handle an elderly man (80's) so, We took him in & He & my Husband go next door often for visits & to play with the cattle dog he has as Our other dogs are too, small for His rough play as He is surely still in the Puppy Stage Bad!!! He now lives outdoors & has a nice warm dog house & stays in a large pen when, He is not out under supervision. We have about 5-6 acres but, We are too close to the road to be out unspervised. Take care of Yourself as You are doing Great work!!! I only wish I did not have to work to be able to do so, myself (I have quite a few illness's; in fact, I almost died about 4 times last yr. But, the babies & Husband & almost near 100 yr Grandmother kept Me getting better, Grandma is quite an example as she is still living on her own-semi with Our watchful eyes We live on the same propety) as We are all She has now & an adoreable White mainly Pom male that I rescued from being left behind. They are a great team. Bye for Now!!! OH YES, ALL OF OUR BABIES HAVE BEEN FIXED & THE NEW ONE WILL BE TOO, as soon as He is old enough!!!!!!

I'm writing from Canada and it breaks my heart that so many puppies and dogs are put to sleep. When my husnabd and I thought about getting a dog, we researched and reserached...just to make sure we could handle it. A dog is not a status symbol...it's alot of hard work and little sleep. It's like having a baby. We waited until we got into a bigger place and made sure we had the time before we made the committment. We are now the proud parents of a 3 month old Lab/Shepherd mix and wouldn't change a thing. She starts puupy school next week. I think as a dog owner it is my responsibility to tell people that if you want a dog...it's a very serious matter, it involves alot of time, training and love. So, if you can't handle the heat...get outta the kitchen.

Being a dog lover, I wish there was more I could do to save some. I have eight of my own that I adopted from shelters and some strays as well. There is no great feeling than coming home and be greeted by eight happy wagging tails.....

Sylvia, Thank you for kindly remembering these dogs. The impact is tremendous-to see their sweet faces (if one can from behind tears) is a powerful message for Spaying/Neutering. I started my own memorial page for the shelter animals I see PTS week in and week out.

It breaks my heart to look at the pictures. I volunteer at the local shelter and see all the wonderful animals that have to be pts and it is awful!! Spay or neuter your pet to help so all the homelessness of pets. It is awful

It rips my heart out to see those photos. When will the madness stop. I pray it will get the point across to irresponsible pet owners, but sadly I know it won't change their minds. There has to be a better way to deal with this problem instead of murdering innocent animals. Please lets all try to think of one!

It's sad that we keep killing tens of millions of dogs and cats a year and people keep breeding their animals. Your pictures are a reminder that all life is precious. Three of my four animals (two dogs & two cats) were "abandon babies". Unlike people, I believe all dogs and cats go to heaven.

Terribly sad the ones that were put down from that abuse case. The only happiness is the bit you gave them, giving them biscuts...Wish they had known more kindness.
