  • Dear Sylvia. After viewing your pictures I find myself emailing you. We are praying to find a maltese, female, or small breed with maltese breeding. After viewing today I feel as if one of the babies I saw I would have ran to the shelter. Please let us know if you find a small maltese we could possibly adopt. You can email us at renevassar@aol.com or call us at 309-9635. My work is 380-0488. Thank you and God bless you.

  • You started sending me pics of dogs that were due out on the same day. What I need to know is if any of your dogs can go into foster homes out of state? I have a large site with hundreds of members, alot of them are looking to rescue a Rat Terrier, even a dog that resembles one, so If this is a possibility, lets get together on this. I am willing to take some time if you are. Thanks ahead of time. Sincerely, Teresa

  • I would like to thank Sylvia for her dedication to finding homes for these discarded and lost animals. I visit this site regularly hoping there will be fewer additions to the "Gone but not forgotten" page and more success stories.

  • Thanks for photos of the pets for adoption- it is a big help- I visit the site every day- I now have 3 cats and adopted a dog in April but I have 2 grandchildren ages 4 and 5 and his temperment just didnt work out with all concerned- she was great with me but didnt want anyone else in the house so I had to surrender her July 8th- I was very sad to do it but I will try again in the future-thanks for your dedication in finding homes for our animal friends

  • Camille - What dog did you surrender? Did they put it in adoption? Only a shepherd mix pup was surrendered on July 8 that was put in adoption. Do you know that ALMOST ALL dogs that are surrendered to the shelter by the owner are PTS IMMEDIATELY? If you ever get into that situation again, contact me first, or contact Responsible Animal Owners of Tennessee at 901-353-1805 to get help to place your dog in another home or a foster home. Surrender the dog to the shelter ONLY as a LAST RESORT!!

  • I am in so saddened and sickened by looking at this site. I wish to God I could save every animal in need and for humans to realize how their actions effect others and to change their ways. I think it is great you are showing the animals that have died, people need to see the reality of what is really happening, these are real animals with souls who are dying because of us. Is there a major ignorance in Tennesee when it comes to animals? I'm so depressed now and I pray for the babies sitting in the shelter now. Why are so many killed?! I'm am not aware of a shelter here (Maine) that kills soooo many animals in such a short amount of time. Keep up the good work to help these creatures.

  • Sylvia.she was a light brown Chow mix,1 yr old.brought in 4/03 and I adopted her 4/19 -cage 324 I think- I was there at 10 am July 8th with all her adoption papers - I think her ID # when brought in in April was 7668 - when I came in on the 8th there was a man in front of me with a large older German shepherd and he asked him if he was vicious and he said no and when he asked me why I was surrendering her I said she tried to bite my grandchildren also another child who visits me in the neighborhood- they might remember me because I was crying so hard when I left-- I just didnt know what else to do- thanks for the information -I will keep it

  • Sylvia, you are wonderful for trying to save these poor dogs. I saw a post on the corgi list about the fluffy 6 year old. I didn't get the message until 4:45 today and no one would answer. I think he will be put to sleep tomorrow and I am just crying. I live near Detroit, Michigan. There are corgi rescue groups that would take corgis in instead of them being put to sleep. http://corgi.ncn.com/CWC/cardirescue.htm http://www.welshcorgi.com/ovpwcc/index.html I think there are rescue groups for most breeds and they will often try to help with mixes as well. Also, if you could post info. on petfinder.com about these dogs, it would reach alot of people. Just some suggestions..Christine (ChrisRHood@aol.com)

  • Sylvia, Do you know if you can recue a dog scheduled to be PTS without paying an adoption fee? I volunteer for an area shelter and sometimes people come in looking for smaller dogs that we don't have. We had a doxie for 1 day with 4 families all wanting to adopt it. There is a 4 year old Doxie at the MAS due out 10-31. If it is not adopted will they let me take it and find a home for it? If there is ANYTHING I can do to help you, please let me know. Thanks, Dana

  • Just wanted to say to everyone who may look at this, I don't know Slyvia but this is a wonderful thing that she is doing. With her taking the time to go down to the shelter, take pictures and post them. It is time consuming. I went to the Memphis Shelter yesterday to see if I could find some kind of Terrier. Found a lovely little dog that is suppose to be Terrier mixed. She was not due out until today, 12-11-2002. I tried talking with this one man there, who was about deaf. I was wanting information about her. Didn't get much out of him. I was tring to let him know that I was interested in her. He acted as if he really could care less. I came home and started looking up dogs on the internet in my area. I found some adorable ones but in the back of my mind was this brown/black little girl sitting in her cage at the pound, being scared half to death. She seems to be a very scared dog. She has a little playfullness in her. My 2 daughters fell in love with her. We have a Boxer now and want a little dog. He gets along great with the small ones. I went back to the shelter this morning and was there before the doors opened and so was about 8 other people. Once I went in, there she was, sitting in the puppy adoption area just like they said she would be. Not one other person looked at her. I got to talk with a lady who was there this time. She didn't really know much either, except that the pup might be older that thye think she is. I took the card off the cage and looked around some with this card in my hand. The day before, I had went into the quarentied area and saw 2 terrier mixed pups. They were still there and are on the site here. They are white and black, and are due out 12-12-2002. Every one of the dogs in this area had just been spraied down with water hoses. It was cold in this are and everyone of them was shakeing. I wanted to take them all home. I went back to little girl and played with her some more and then went and adopted her. I am suppose to pick her up Friday or Sat. A lady with her, about 10 yr old, daughter showed up to get a dog they had adopted and they people told them the dog wasn't ready, that surgery was behind. Don't know when they will be able to pick the dog up. I can't wait to get ours. Anyway, there are a lot of dogs there that are not on this site. If you are able to go down there and look, PLEASE, do. I doubt Sylvia can go EVERY day and take pictures, since the pup I adopted is not on here. Slyvia, if you want I can take a picture of her and send to you to post. Just let me know. jdrose_sff@msn.com Will be glad to do it. I can even take her picture with our 118 pound Boxer that is the BIGGEST baby in the world. lol

  • Sylvia, if you could email me privately, I'd appreciate it. I'm trying to think of some way we could help get more of these dogs adopted to homes, we're in KY and work with several rural shelters and have really helped decrease the euthanasia rate, and your doing a terrific thing here, and it must be so heartbreaking for you. So I just wanted to chat and see if there was something we could do to help you. Debbie

This recycling campaign is a fast, free, and easy way to raise funds for your school, business, shelter, church, or nonprofit organization. Collect old cell phones and the empty cartridges from printers, fax machines and copiers. Earn up to $30.00 per old cell phone and up to $12.00 per empty cartridge! The HcbRecycling.com program will help your organization to capture additional revenue from your existing corporate or individual donors. HcbRecycling.com pays all of the program expenses, including all shipping! Your corporate or individual donors can participate year-round, eliminating your need for additional employee contributions or multiple events. • Thank you, Leslie and Harold, for SAVING a good dog! That heeler is timid and would NOT have been moved to adoption. Most heelers are a bit timid, and she will definitely perk up when she is out of that crummy place.

  • Hi Sylvia, I think it's great that you post these otherwise forgotten souls on webshots to save them! I am on an animal rescue email list and would like to help by adding them to my rescue contacts list of animals in need of rescue/adoption! If you would like us to post them on a regular basis to spread the word about this shelter and those animals needing to be saved, please send me a list when you have the updated info and I'll be glad to forward it on! Thanks for helping these animals in need! Augusta Moore

  • Hi Sylvia! I want to tell you I love your website. I've been here several times, ever since we lost a dog several months ago. I have a dog I'd like to put on the adoption page. It was a tiger striped pitbull/boxer mix (maybe all pitbull) but I'm amazed at how sweet he is. I just know if I can get his picture out there someone will want him. Also, I tried to put an adoption form on one of the puppies yesterday, and the man said I couldn't untl the day OF his release. I thought I had to tell them before so he wouldn't be put down. My email is GreenEggsNTam@aol.com or if your email is posted somewhere here, that'd be great so I could talk to you. Thanks! Tamela

  • Just wanted to let you know how much I admire you and appreciate what you are doing for these poor animals. I've been checking your site frequently for the past 5-6 months. Started out looking for a dog for my 19 yr. old after his dog passed away. She was a stray we had found in our neighborhood when he was just a little boy and he was of course very attached to her. We saw several that we were interested in on your site but never managed to make it there before someone else adopted them. Well, turned out, one morning about 2 wks before Christmas a little puppy showed up at our doorstep with the neighbor's dog that we feed regularly and it became his new dog. "Buster&quot ; is now about 9 mos. old and gets along great with the 2 cats. He looks like he is part Jack Russell. Anyhow, I continued to look at your site and have been tempted several times to try adopting again. Today I gave in. I actually went by to look at the little lab mixed puppy that has been there for a while. I didn't see him tho so I am hoping he was already adopted out. I did see the most adorable little girl in 313 though. Her picture is not on your site, but she is a very sweet, timid little thing. Looks like she may be some type of spaniel mix. I was surprised that they told me I could take her home today. I was on my lunch break at the time so I am leaving a little early to go back to pick her up before closing. Just wanted to let you know that your site is responsible for this little girl getting a new home. I would love to e-mail you a picture of her with her new family that you can add to your site. Please let me know where to send it.

  • This is the first time I have seen this site. This shelter shocked me! I work full time at an animal control in Ontario and I know this is a city shelter but there is no excuse for this. If they take in so many strays, WHY THE HELL DO THEY TAKE IN SURRENDERS? That's just horrible. Even in Toronto (a very large city) they have many different shelters to cover different areas and the head of them is the Toronto Humane Society. This gives dogs time to be adopted. I'm curious to know who works at this shelter, and how they can kill so many animals a day. At my shelter we have euthanised a total of 6 this year. Sylvia you are truly a strong and wonderful person to do what you do.

  • Thank you for doing such a wonderful job trying to help as many animals as possible. It takes a truly brave soul to face this deep, inhuman, ignorance. The name of this album is an oxymoron, there is no Memphis Animal Shelter!

  • Hi Sylvia, Great job.I am a professional pet groomer of 18 years.I just found out about your site and have been sitting here reading and crying for the last hour.I have attempted to offer service and help to the shelter without much response. In my opinion the shelter workers are people who either do not care,or do not have the slightest experience with dealing with animals of any kind.I have kicked around the idea of a no-kill shelter with several vets in the area and have gotten the big brush-off about it. The last time I went to the shelter the place was horrible.Dirty and completely hopeless.Keep up the good work. My e-mail is barkingbarber@aol.com

  • The newspaper said the adoption policies were changing to allow people to put their name down for a dog before its due out date instead of the old raffle system. Has this happened yet?

  • This site is truly heartbreaking. People, please, please, please, get your animals fixed. NOBODY needs to be breeding their dogs at a time like this. There are so many dogs and cats without homes. This is truly heartbreaking. I think the people in Memphis need to unite and try to get these shelters to be no kill or have some incentives for people who adopt. Having a wonderful friend, companion, and defender should be more than enough, but people who have never had a dog or cat do not quite understand. WE need to do something! Amanda4166@aol.com

  • Dear Sylvia, I just wanted to let you know what a great dog or should I say family memeber I received. Buster is so wonderful! The picture with my daughter does not do justice to the bond that has developed between the two of them. The first night I brought him home, he licked my 2 year olds face and layed on the end of his bed. The picture sent to you was what I discovered the next morning when I got up. My wish is to have all the wonderful animals find a home and god bless you for all the work you do. One more thing.. I still thank Ron all the time for finding me such a wonderful friend.
