Foster Dogs/Cats - avail for adoption NOW

You're doing a great job.We met the other day at the shelter, I got 2 dogs there.You're an inspiration.I now would like to rescue/foster, after my contract closes on my house with 5 acres!

I think you do amazing work. It must be so heartbreaking to see the endless dogs come in hoping for a new home. Most people would be disillusioned, and probably stay away. I think that your webpage is a FABULOUS idea. Even if someone cannot adopt...it is so educational. I had absolutely NO idea that so many wonderful dogs are homeless. People continue to breed and buy dogs while all these gorgeous dogs get put down. I hope to resue in the near future. Thank you!

You are to be commended for what you are doing for these animals. It is such a tragedy that so many great dogs are being put down because they have noehere to go...& some of them are even purebreds! I would love to do anything I can to help.

How do you find out more info on the dogs.....like their weight and temperment?

The dogs in the shelter are NOT weighed. I don't even think they have any scales to do so. Dogs in adoption usually have good temperment or they would not be there. Dogs in holding cannot be "out of their cages" to be evaluated until their due out date. The shelter will not allow contact with a dog in stray/holding until the due out date, due to liability issues (dog bites, etc.). One can usually tell something about temperment for dogs in holding due to how they react to you at their cage.

Thanks to you....The House of Mews went to the shelter & took 14 kitties July 1 and 2 several due to be put to sleep...in fact I think we got all those scheduled to be put to sleep and some who's time wasn't up yet.

I run a large breed rescue in Canada and really admire what you are trying to do for the animals. The more people here about the plight about animals in htese situations , the more that will get done to help them. Just keep doing your best and good luck.

We took in "Bo", the hound/lab mix. Our dogs hate him. But he loves them and is a wonderful dog. Would it be pointless to run an ad in the paper if he was just truly lost/wondering in Shelby Farms? I really appreciate seeing your gone but not forgotten pictures. It's very sad but a fitting memorial to those poor dogs who died just because THERE WERE TOO MANY. I hope people who don't spay/neuter their pets and those who just dump them when they are tired of them realize that so many don't make it and take a good look at these sweet faces who deserved so much more. Having faces to see makes it so much more real and personal.

Sylvia, the rottie/shepherd mix that I took home from the shelter on Saturday has now been named Junebug. She has an infection on her tail, but other than that is just fine. I will be looking to find her a foster home on Mondy. Will you please post her picture so I can give everyone a look. She is sweet and needs someone that will love her. Hello, Your website on webshots.com is wonderful. It's sad to see all of the animals that had to die becasue there was no home for them. But I'm glad to see someone using this website for something worthwhile. I have two dogs that were adopted, one from animal control, and one from a rescue group. They are the best pets I could ever ask for. They are loyal and loving companions. Thank you for trying to find homes for these animal. Thank you for doing a job that must be very hard.

Just wanted to say what a good job you are doing. I work voluntary in my local animal rescue home and we never put any healthy animal to sleep unless they dont have a quality of life left. We even have cats with FIP/FIV etc fostered out so that their last days are spent in a loving home. I am totally appalled that this place can go on doing what it does. I wish I lived nearer so that I could adopt some of the many animals unfortunate enough to find themselves there. I really like your pictures. I find them most heart touching and can spend hours adoring the beautiful puppies and kittens that are on show. As a great fan and life dedicated lover to animals, I know how distressing it is to see some poor dogs that do not have a home, their pitiful eyes, not knowing if they will die in the accomodation consisting of four brick walls. Another pets site listed this to make users aware of the abuse that millions of dogs suffer a year. Please read it and maybe then afterwards you could take the time to check out my profile and maybe download some pretty rainbhow fractals, created by myself. When I was a puppy, I entertained you with my antics and made you laugh. You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes and a couple of murdered throw pillows, I became your best friend. Whenever I was "bad," you'd shake your finger at me and ask "How could you?" -- but then you'd relent and roll me over for a belly rub. My housebreaking took a little longer than expected, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. I remember those nights of nuzzling you in bed and listening to your confidences and secret dreams, and I believed that life could not be any more perfect. We went for long walks and runs in the park, car rides, stops for ice cream (I only got the cone because "ice cream is bad for dogs" you said), and I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day. Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a human mate. I waited for you patiently, comforted you through heartbreaks and disappointments, never chided you about bad decisions, and romped with glee at your homecomings, and when you fell in love. She, now your wife, is not a "dog person" -- still I welcomed her into our home, tried to show her affection, and obeyed her. I was happy because you were happy. Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement. I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them, too. They are as attentive to us here in the shelter as their busy schedules allow. They feed us, of course, but I lost my appetite days ago. At first, whenever anyone passed my pen, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you that you had changed your mind -- that this was all a bad dream... or I hoped it would at least be someone who cared, anyone who might save me. When I realized I could not compete with the frolicking for attention of happy puppies, oblivious to their own fate, I retreated to a far corner and waited. I heard her footsteps as she came for me at the end of the day, and I padded along the aisle after her to a separate room. A blissfully quiet room. She placed me on the table and rubbed my ears, and told me not to worry. My heart pounded in anticipation of what was to come, but there was also a sense of relief. The prisoner of love had run out of days. As is my nature, I was more concerned about her. The burden which she bears weighs heavily on her, and I know that, the same way I knew your every mood. She gently placed a tourniquet around my foreleg as a tear ran down her cheek. I licked her hand in the same way I used to comfort you so many years ago. She expertly slid the hypodermic needle into my vein. As I felt the sting and the cool liquid coursing through my body, I lay down sleepily, looked into her kind eyes and murmured "How could you?" Perhaps because she understood my dogspeak, she said "I'm so sorry." She hugged me, and hurriedly explained it was her job to make sure I went to a better place, where I wouldn't be ignored or abused or abandoned, or have to fend for myself -- a place of love and light so very different from this earthly place. And with my last bit of energy, I tried to convey to her with a thump of my tail that my "How could you?" was not directed at her. It was directed at you, My Beloved Master, I was thinking of you. I will think of you and wait for you forever. May everyone in your life continue to show you so much loyalty.

Trixie looks very similar to our newly adopted "Madison&quo t; from Pets Project in Colorado Springs. Is she ever friendly and constantly wants to be scratched around the neck (even at 2am). Our 14 year old cocker spaniel gets along with her just fine! Anyone who considers getting a pet, go to any animal shelter because we have found them to be the BEST!

Sylvia - Boston Dog Rescue turned me onto your pages in April, 2004. I looked regularly and quickly got into dog rescue. It helped me make the difficult decision to foster and I have since taken in many dogs and helped them find forever homes. And as of tonight (although my husband doesnt know it yet) we will be adopting our most recent foster dog. A sweet, gentle big black labby mix who belongs here. So thank you for unknowingly helping me to become a foster mom (despite having 2 babies at the time) and for, indirectly, bringing my newest poopie home to me. You ROCK!
