  • Buddy 2 is so photogenic! Enjoyed his album and the time you have taken with your explanations. Yes, the Australian Cockatiels who are born in the wild are more grey, just as the Budgerigars in the wild are green. But those that come from the pet shops, etc. have other colours bred into them. They make beautiful pets, but a male Cockateil has to be "King of the Roost"... Gladys.

  • Hi Barb! In Western Australia we often call them Weiros, so I was surprised to find that a South Australian Parrot Breeder had never heard them called Weiros. Try putting Weiro in the Webshots Photo Search above -- it should find the only 2 shots I have up of Weiros in an aviary at Tom Price (In my album "Perth/Pilbara 2004 #4"). You could also try a Google Search for Weiro. May I suggest that you re-arrange the order of these shots -- I think people would be enticed to view if #2, #3 or #8 were the lead photo, also if you sign other people's books you will usually get a reply. Best of Luck.. Gladys.

  • Hello Barb. Just had to come and take a peek at your Cockatiel. Buddy 2nd is sooooo very cute. Looks like he's pampered a lot too. And why not, pets are very precious to us. I know only too well, because we lost Bijou's brother. We had them both as kittens and they were inseparable. One day, as fully grown cats, they went outside to play as usual, only Jo-Jo never returned. We were devastated. We did everything we could to find him, but to no avail. Thinking Bijou would be lonely, we acquired Milo from a cat rescue society. He had been abused and mistreated. Sadly, the two cats don't get on together. They just tollerate one another. 4 years on and Bijou still misses her brother. She has never been the same since. Thanks for signing their album. I will try and find out the name of the shrub with the red berries. Take care aand my warmest wishes. Jayne, West Midlands, UK. :) xx

  • Hi Barb! It was a lovely surprise to receive your message, actually, I thought of you recently when I was looking at some albums of hand-reared cockatiels. Your Buddy 2 has grown so handsome and is obviously well-loved. I am sure he knows just how much joy he brings to you. No more big holidays for me yet, just a quick trip south to visit my daughter, and while there we visited Birdworld. You will find the pics in "Feathered Friends" under my other username of gladysclancy2. It keeps me very busy looking after two sites, but the first one is almost full. Warm and sunny greetings from Western Australia, Gladys.

  • Dear Barb, What a nice album! In French we call this kind of birds Calopsitte. Really a cute bird, so nice and pretty! It seems to be a good friend! I like pictures #2 (hungry), #3, #5, and #9 (beautiful face). Have a nice weekend, kind regards, Tatiana

  • Hi Barb! I am sure Buddy was pleased that he could stay cosy inside during your cold winter. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a 'correct' spelling for Weiro -- a Google Search finds entries for both Weiro and Weero. I have also found it spelt both ways in Bird Books. The "Field Guide to the Birds of Australia" by Simpson & Day says "Voice; loud, rolling 'weero-weero'. I will paste a couple of websites you might like to have a look at; http://www.birdworld.com.au/records/cockatoo/wearo.html AND http://www.maths.mq.edu.au/~ross/parrots/feathered.html Hope you find these interesting. Gladys.

  • Hello Barb, I just love your photos of Buddy. These are delightful birds, as you already know. We call them Cockatiels on the eastern side of Australia. Weiro isn't a name I've ever heard, so I've learned something from you and Gladys. Best wishes from Keith in Sydney.

  • Hello Barb, This is an enjoyable and informative album, thanks for sharing it. I've learned a few things about Cockatiels. Nice pictures of Buddy, he(?) looks like a good friend. Webshots has not made it easy for me to view all the pictures in the album. It took three different attempts, on different days, to finally see all the enlarged pictures from the thumbnails. I guess their site is still not fully functional. I wrote an entry for your guestbook a couple days back but it was dumped after I clicked the "Add my message" bar. I got mad and gave up until now. Hopefully this message will get through to you. It's the countdown toward the end of the year and I hope things are well and in order for you during the holiday season. Regards and God bless, Carl

  • What a great album Barb! I wrote down some information for my brother, he has raised several exotic birds for the last 25 years. But don't think he pampers his 60 + birds like you do. We had cockateels and parakeets when I was very young, I have a interesting story I will email you one day about the two cockateels we had, and also about my parakeet that got loose and flew away. Great album some fantastic photos and a lot of good stuff to read. Hugs, Laura

  • Hi, I have a cockateil and she will be 9 in November this year and her name is Tweedty. She is my third baby since I don't have children. She loves to laugh, massage herself under her little bell, knows what time to go to bed, she will play with me (Momma)when she is on my shoulders to play hide & seak 4 times. When I am at the computer, she comes down my arm and sits on my hand/wrist to sleep or acts like shes playing. She is a character. She loves to talk to crows, horses, frogs, seagulls, other cockateils and small birds. Jenn

  • Hello Barb: Nice and informative and of course Buddy is absolutely precious and gorgeous! He looks well loved. I have really enjoyed going through your album. Brings back memories of when I use to breed this species and hand feed the chicks to become feathered companions. We now breed and hand feed parrots. Have a great day. Thank you for sharing. • I have a cockatiel but he is antisocial. I've had him for about 6 or 7 years and he still doesn't trust us. He hisses a lot. He will not allow me to touch him. He's been this way since we got him. I think he was traumatized at the pet store.. what do you think?
